Located at 2005 11th St. in Southside Park, South is contemporary Southern cuisine, heavy on seasonal vegetables and driven by historical inspiration. South is traditional family food, unpretentious, with no gimmicks, and no crazy science. At South we are not trying to reinvent the wheel, we are just trying to express 200 years of our family’s story on a 12” plate.
N’Gina Guyton is a New Orleans born; Sacramento raised wedding and event planner. She began her career in the restaurant and hospitality industry working for such companies as The Paragary Restaurant Group, The Starwood Hotel and Resort Family and The Selland Family of Restaurants. In 2009 she opened Eight American Bistro Catering with partner Ian Kavookjian; a small catering company specializing in custom menus for their clientele. In 2011, the company expanded to full service wedding and event planning; housing under one roof, planning, décor, rentals, catering, floral design and event staffing. In 2014, N’Gina and Ian opened South restaurant in Southside Park and have continued to cater and wedding plan in the Sacramento are and beyond.
Ian Kavookjian grew up in New Brunswick, New Jersey. After a dinner with family and friends, in which he had his first taste of a French Bordeaux, he began his education in fine dining and wine making. A summer job at a winery in upstate New York inspired him to move to the Napa Valley where he worked at such fine dining establishments as Pairs of St. Helena and Live Fire of Yountville. All the while catering weddings for Dean and Deluca, where he was responsible for staffing as well as event design. After five years he moved to the Sacramento Valley working as server and banquet captain at Il Forno Classico, and Esquire Grill. Having spent most of the last fifteen years in food and beverage, he has found a genuine passion for the connection between what is grown and how it is prepared and whom we share it with.
